BRAZILIAN JIU JITSU
HISTORY OF BRAZILIAN JIU JITSU
the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu was developed at the beginning of 900 by Carlos Garcie, who learned Ju Jitzu by his father, a pupil of the famous Japanese master Mitsuo Maeda. Carlos, Helio (and their brothers) developed a particular kind of Jiu Jitzu, influenced by the Brazilian fight without rules (Vale Tudo) and arrives to challenge and overcome the Brazilian and Japanese great champions of Ju Jitzu and judo.
In the 80s, Royce Grace (the son of Helio) showed the world the strength of the BJJ, winning inter disciplinary tournaments (Ultimate Fighting Championship) with the world champions of judo, jiu jitsu, sambo, kickboxing (opponents even bigger and heavier then him).
TECHNIQUE OF BRAZILIAN JIU JITSU
The Brazilian Jiu Jitzu is primarily a style of ground fighting. the slogan of Master Rigan Machado clarifies the principles of this fighting art better than a thousand words: "When my opponent is knocked down you enter my world. The ground fighting is like the ocean, I am the shark, and many people does not even know how to swim! "(Rigan Machado)
In short, a stronger opponent can be neutralized bringing it to fight on ground. As we know in details ground fighting we can prevail on stronger opponents.
Unlike other sports, such as judo, the ground fighting is predominant. The projection serves only as the beginning of the fight on the ground. The true weapons are the joint locks and chokeholds. And all the techniques to manipulate the opponent, by bringing him to the desired position to apply the arm bar or chokeholds to defeat him.
Unlike judo, you can use a much larger number of techniques and strategies to bring down their opponent. Grasp both legs of the opponent, falling with him, or simply sit back and hold on to the opponent, leading him to the ground.
Strengths of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Strengths of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. The BJJ can really beat opponents experts in other combat sports and martial arts. Limiting their capacity to bring shots, shifting to ground combat, where the rules change. And especially knowing better the principles governing the fight to the ground. Joint locks and chokes, if well executed, can knock out anyone.
Weaknesses of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Weaknesses of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Obviously, shots (kicks, punches, knees, elbows) cannot be utilized, neither with gloves nor bare hands. For this reason BJJ leaves many gaps, not only in the capacity to execute shots, but also by defending from the shots. The BJJ must be considerated as a complement for a fighter, but not enough effective as a single sport.
